Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (also known as CBT) is a research based talking therapy, based on understanding and connecting thoughts, feelings, behaviours and how they affect our physical sensations. CBT is a very effective therapy for anxiety, mood disorders and eating disorders (bulimia nervosa).
CBT is a sophisticated intervention, and aims at creating alternative balanced perspectives. It is very collaborative and has joint client-therapist goals, with the client's goals being at the centre. The number of CBT sessions can vary, depending on the nature of the problem.
As an example, please refer to NICE guidelines for Depression in Children and Young People.
